Icynene-Lapolla spray foam is a newer type of insulation that has been around since 1986.

Insulation is one way to make the home more energy-efficient. Many new construction projects use this product because it offers comfort and energy efficiency benefits.

Special equipment is used to spray the insulation and protective gear is worn during the spraying process, a few reasons why this job is best left to the professionals.

If your home could use an energy-efficiency upgrade, then here are the pros and cons of spray_foam_insulation to consider.

What is spray foam insulation

Spray foam ( spray_foam_insulation ) insulation is a mixture of liquid chemical ingredients that react to produce a foam-like substance that we can use as insulation.

Unlike conventional insulation materials, spray_foam fills cracks, gaps, and crevices on installation.

Spray_foam_insulation is an insulation and air barrier material that seals walls, floors, and ceiling cavities against air movement.

There are two types of spray_foam_insulation to choose :

Closed-cell spray insulation,

Closed-cell spray insulation, a rigid medium-density material, can be used in exterior applications such as continuous insulation applications, as well as interior applications.

Built tough, this rigid spray foam performs brilliantly in flood-prone areas since it can reject bulk water.

open-cell spray foam

open-cell foaming insulation is best suited for interior applications,

Open-cell foam products can  provide a sound barrier. Plus this type of spray_foam allows leaks to drain through.

3 types of spray foam in terms of density

1-HIGH-DENSITY

Builders often turn to high-density spray foam when high insulation values and strength are needed.

2-MEDIUM-DENSITY

Like low-density foam, medium-density SPF is often used for continuous insulation, interior wall cavity fill, and unvented attic applications.

3-LOW-DENSITY

to provide a continuous insulation and an air-sealing barrier.

Resistance

it is resistant to mold, pests, and fire , mildew .

It provides thermal protection.

and therefore an ideal option for the attic and roof cavity.

Insulation with a high R-value prevents heat from freely moving through the insulating material.it has an R-value of 3.5 per inch of thickness.

note :

Spray _foam_insulation provides a superior R-value per inch compared to traditional rolled or blown in insulation.

energy efficiency

allowing the HVAC system (heat, cool, ventilate) to operate much more efficiently.

Because the home is far better insulated, the much improved energy efficiency reduces demand for winter heating and summer cooling.

Spray foam is said to reduce energy costs in your home by as much as up to 50 percent.

According to the EPA’s Energy Star Association, this type of insulation material demonstrated that it cut the monthly energy bill by up to 20%.

cost

To install foam spray the upfront cost and investment may be beyond the budget of some homeowners.

With cost being the primary factor, if you are working with a slim budget, fiberglass insulation may be the one for you.

but , Spray-foam-insulation is a little more expensive than your traditional fibreglass insulation, but a good thing about it is, it will never increase your cost of energy bills.

The average cost to have spray foam professionally installed is about $2,400 for a 1,600 sq. ft. home.

Difficult to remove

if something goes wrong and it has to be removed it is EXTREMELY difficult and labour intensive to remove.

installation

Contractors estimate that the cost of using spray foam is two to three times higher than that of using other types of insulation.

While professional installation is required for spray_foam_insulation, fiberglass insulation can be installed by homeowners themselves .

It is possible for spray foam to add up to 250% racking strength to your roof or walls when the product receives a correct installation.

During the installation process of the spray foam, it is recommended that all occupants be removed from the tainted environment or the building.

everybody should stay out of this environment for at least 24 hours, maybe up to 72 hours to avoid certain health issues from spray_foam_insulation fumes in the air.

Flexible use

as it’s a foam it can be installed in unusual locations such as curved spaces or tight nooks and crannies etc.
